About the data

The map shows the reported life satisfaction in each country, colour coded as ‘good’ (green), ‘middling’ (amber) or ‘bad’ (red). The data derive from the life satisfaction question in the 2005 Gallup World Poll, and also from the World Values Survey (see Appendix 2 of the HPI 2.0 report for full details). Arrow over each country to see its name and life satisfaction on a scale of 0-10, where 0 means dissatisfied and 10 means satisfied.

You can download the complete data file containing overall scores for HPI 2.0, as well as component results and HPI data over time for selected countries.
